Welcome to 2010...8th January gathering...Hobgoblin and Royal Tandoori

January's gathering - is in Reading...for the Maidenhead crowd you can do this from the railway station and walking...!

Meet in the second best pub in Reading (the 'Goblin" has only 3000 Real Ales!) - but be warned it isn't a big place so getting there late for this one could be a mistake as you will have to stand outside ??

Meet at 8pm for 8:30pm at the Hobgoblin on Broad Street (No. 2) then a short hop to the Royal Tandoori on Duke Street (No.8)

Trains from Maidenhead to save you looking it up: 19:21 arrives 19:45 plus a walk or 19:40 arrives 19:56

January 8th 2010

The Cinnamon Tree was good but still only ranked a 7.5 on the curry house monitor...we had been warned about overly attentive service but good food...and merely got good service and good food... Great ambiance and quite attractive decor..good stuff.

All the starters are the same price but the Onion Bhajee offers the best value...but everything else looked and seemed to be very good, and tasted it too I am told by fellow members. The main courses were quite a selection...sticking to the Chef's Specialty List and the Lamb Jalfrezi was very good indeed...

Good food, good service and good decor...can't really go wrong...oh, but Parking was tight AGAIN. Less garden more parking might well be a good move.

Banter normal rubbish...numbers 5 and plans for January laid and detailed below...make a note...

... we chatted about January's gathering..and thought Reading would be an interesting addition to our monthly curry extravaganza..but we also realised the first Friday is the 1st January and the collective thought was it was probably going to clash with other arrangments or just plain hangovers! So we are going for the 8th instead - so pulled out the old diary/pda/Blackberry and write it in now...otherwise you will forget...go on DO IT NOW...

Details to follow - have a great Xmas & New Year and here's hoping that 2010 is a better one than 2009 for all. See you soon.

Mr India...a remarkable 8 out of 10

Mr India - turned out to be the surprise Mr Lewis promised...(the small gathering this month (4) is our equal lowest attendance(... the evening began amongst the villians at the Happy Union... good old fashioned pub with attendant Irish barmaid and as Ian found out very friendly local faces! Juan was running on central European time as normal...

After a swift Guiness it was down to the idyllic Buckinghamshire Village of Loudwater... Parking is...challenging! as Mr I's has parking for 3.5 cars... but Ian managed to park in a local industrial estate about 3 miles away and Tom just used the Range Rover to push a couple a Nissan Micras out of the way... after some confusion over the lighting at our first table we final found a table Tom liked and settled in for some good food actually.

Highly recommend the mixed kebab starters, and the Lamb Dilruba but a lot of the other dishes had pretty unappetising sauces dumped on them...fairly tasty stuff, and good attentive service made a fun evening...Tom and I had our quarterly argument about whether The City adds any value to the economy, and Ian regailed us with his boxing history...viscious man you know...and Juan admitted to a life of armed guarding the Spanish State before finding science and curry.

Overall we gave Mr India 8 and would recommend you ignore the surroundings and go straight to the menu...this is a good decent place, that if it was in a better part of the world would do far better..but judging by the numberof people in the place...they aren't struggling for business. To the couple we sat to first...sorry Tom nearly fell on you and Juan's bad language..hopewe didn't ruin your evening...
BTW - Mr India..was a 1987 Bollywood Superhero film...and is the owners favourite movie...hence calling namings his curry house after it.... You can still rent the film from www.lovefilm.com.

PS - for those following these things Tom's house in Marlow is very nearly finished. Next month is The Cinnamon Tree...be afraid Littlewick Green, be very afraid...

You need to Vote (on the blog!) ...do we do Welsh Curry??

A bit of a re posting...chaps... because Ian found it hard to follow...you should vote on the Blog on whether to go to the Welsh bit of Wales for a Curry...

Right chaps - we have talked many times about travelling to remote places for a curry..the trip to Heartily Whipme proved it wasn't too much trouble...well I spoke to Stevie Miles and we still think a trip to the Welsh Marches is a goer...but you lot a remarkable fickle types so
here is your chance to vote...do we go see Miles and Clan for a curry?

Vote now...

Welsh Curry....

I got to say - this is one of the most sensible sponsorships of the year...Kingfisher beer and the best curry house checker in Wales.... I think we should petition Kingfisher for the English Version...(Steve thought you a closest to be able to use this)

Unlike Mr India last month... lots of parking for this gathering...

Did you know Ivor Novello's link to Littlewick Green???

13th November ... Mr India - nice looking innit?

Chaps...Ian says this place is good...food wise anyway... now; parking nearby is a bit limited... few spaces outside but not many so you need to find a local road... I will scout it out... here's the address... and for those with computers a multimap.com

Heartily Whipme...

Heartily Whipme proved a popular location..sadly I can't remember the scoring on the night so next to this is the poll for you to vote chaps... Liked the Cricketers, especially because they serve Doom Bar, and curry house was a corker (in my view)... Food was excellent..service a touch slow (we had to grab their attention at least once) and the Naga (hot, hot, hot) sauce was a bit of a disappointing...but hey good place all around I would say...! Well worth a 35-40 min drive...even if Gavin was driving
